China Green Card for Reunion of Unmarried Children Under 18

Who is eligible?

Children who are under the age of 18 years old, unmarried, and verified to have foreign nationality can apply for a Permanent Residence in China if one or both parent(s)is/are a Chinese citizen(s) (having registered Chinese permanent citizenship) or foreigner(s)who is/are eligible for permanent residence in China.

Application Process

1. Apply to the public security organ of the municipal people’s government; 

2. After accepting the application, carry out relevant investigations, and report to the provincial public security organ for review if the application meets the requirements; 

3. Those who meet the requirements shall be reported to the National Immigration Administration for approval. After the approval, the National Immigration Administration will issue a foreigner’s permanent residence ID card.

Time and Payment for Processing

Time :The time varies from place to place, currently 4-6 months in Guangzhou; 6-12 months in Beijing; 6-9 months in Shanghai.

Payment:  1. Processing fee: RMB1,500      2. Card fee: RMB 300

Documents Required

1.Complete Application Form for Permanent Residence in China and provide 2 copies of two-inch recent photos .

2. Valid passport and valid visa (or residence permit) and provide 2 copies of each.

3. ID Card and Household Register of the Chinese parent, or the valid passport and valid passport and Permanent Resident ID Card of the foreign parent, and 2 copies of each are required. Copies of issuance page and parent’s information pages of Household Register should be submitted.

4.Birth Certificate (or parent-child relationship certificate, or adoption proof), and provide 2 copies of this. If the Certificate or proof is issued abroad, verification by the Chinese Embassy/Consulate General is required.

5. Marriage Certificate of parents, and 2 copies of this should be provided (in case the parents have divorced, the principal applicant should provide valid sole-guardianship proof, such as court verdict, etc.). If the Certificate is issued abroad, it must be verified by the Embassy/Consulate General of China.

6.Nationality identification should be processed in the first place in case one/both parents was/were of Chinese nationality when the child was born.

How to maintain Green Card Status in China?

1. You must stay in China for a period, at least 3 months per year.

2. The validity period of the Green Card for minors is five years. After the validity period expires, you need to apply to the Immigration Bureau for a new card. 

3. Must comply with Chinese laws.
