China, with rich culture and history, thriving economy and large population, is attracting more and more international students to enroll in Chinese higher education. A growing number of international scholarships for outstanding international students or students in special majors such as English-taught are being offered across the country.
Hundreds of thousands of international students move to China each year, with many drawn to the country to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and history, while others aim to enrich academic studies.
Foreigners who study in China for long-term will need to apply for residence permit from Bureau of Public Security within 30 days entry in China, the validity of residence permit should be consistent with your school’s study period, the validity is at least 180 days for the first-time application.
Foreigners under 18 who submit the application for the first time in China must submit their birth certificates, passports of parents and overseas residence certification.
To apply for residence permit for foreigner, applicant need to provide following documents to local Public Security Bureau
1. Valid passport or other international travel documents；
2. Complete the Foreign Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form in black ink，and paste a 2 inch recent white background bareheaded photo stamped with the corporate seal.
3. Valid accommodation registration of the applicant provided by the local police station or hotel of present residence；The applicant has checked in at the police station or hotel in his residence.
4. Foreigners who enter China with X1 visa shall submit a letter issued by their school specifying the period of their study, and an enrollment or admission certificate.
5. Foreigners who enter China with other types of visa, shall also submit the “Visa Application for Study in China” （JW201/JW202 form）or the Beijing Municipal Education Commission issued a letter of consent to their study.
6. Foreigners above 18 who submit the application for the first time, shall also submit a physical examination report issued by Chinese health quarantine office.
